Luca Molinari Studio sides Campus Bio-Medico SpA, promoter of Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome (UCBM) to organize and manage the selection and competition process of UCBM Masterplan International Design Competition.
After an international request for qualification on a methodological basis, the architects eventually selected by the Client to run the competition are: Atelier(s) Alfonso Femia (Italy), El Equipo Mazzanti (Colombia), Diller Scofidio + Renfro (U.S.A) with Alvisi Kirimoto Partners (Italy), Labics (Italy), + Topotek 1 (Germany), Mario Cucinella Architects (Italy), Sauerbruch Hutton (Germany) and Xaveer De Geyter Architects (Belgium).
In harmony with its 2015-2045 Development Plan “piùCampus”, the competition brief, designed in cooperation with the Athenaeum provides the qualitative and quantitative guidelines for the development of a sustainable and porous infrastructure able to welcome new functions and grow over time as a university park in relation to its landscape and urban context: an inspiring center for health care and forefront education for students, physicians, researchers and patients.
Through a shared process involving UCBM governance, promoters, physicians, students, professors, teaching experts within science and bioengineering and institutions, Campus Bio-Medico promotes the development of a University Research focused on health and environmental sciences in line with its values based on the centrality of the person.
UCBM Masterplan International Design Competition is a competition on invitation facing two different outputs and project scales:
– the masterplan design of UCBM campus, over a total area of about 90 ha and a gross surface of 186,000 sqm
– UCBM architectural development for short/medium-term new functions over a gross total surface of 20.000 sqm. Among these new functions: a new educational centre and new facilities devoted to campus life and interdisciplinarity such as sports facilities, informal learning spaces, a new library, UCBM headquarters, a simulation centre, residential and service spaces.
Luca Molinari Studio provides the competition scientific secreteriat, the coordination of the jury and technical committee works, the content development, drafting and graphics of the competition design dossier, official website (www.futureunicampus.it) and of the events within UCBM Masterplan International Design Competition, such as the symposium, “Education and Innovation. Universities serving society and humanity (14 March 2018), on the occasion of the competition workshop, and the public dialogue, “Architecture &Education. Engaging spaces serving society and a human knowledge” at MAXXI museum in Rome (18 July 2018).
On April 2019 the masterplan proposal submitted by Labics and Topotek 1, “Horti Academici”, wins UCBM tender to organically shape a new urban center devoted to scientific education, research and health care and enhance the relation with Decima Malafede Nature Reserve.
