Commissioned by Brioschi Sviluppo Immobiliare in 2006 Luca Molinari supports the drawing of an international competition on invitation for a holiday and residential complex in the countryside of Santa Cesarea Terme, renown thermal village on the coast of Salento.
What does it mean to design a “contemporary holiday village”? This question is the core issue that the project brief unfolds in all its sections. The area, over a surface of 1.300.000 square meters, is to host approximatively 3000 people among tourists and permanent inhabitants. The competition strongly requests to conceive a masterplan in a close and respectful relationship with Puglia landscape and work out a low density and thoroughly sustainable proposal.
After a first selection phase the architects invited to the tender are: Carlo Cappai, Maria Alessandra Segantini – C+S Architetti; Roberto Collovà, Alfonso Femia, Gianluca Peluffo – 5+1 AA; Cherubino Gambardella – Gambardella Architetti; Bjarke Ingels – BIG; Bernard Khoury – DW5 Architects; Anne Lacaton, Philippe Vassal – Lacaton & Vassal; NL Architects; Beniamino Servino; Andrea Vescovini, Annamaria Prandi – Ludens Architetti.
The jury awards exaequo Collovà, Gambardella and Servino for the sensitive masterplan and the contemporary Mediterrenean vision enhancing the natural landscape.
