SpazioFMG per l’Architettura yearly programme, curated by Luca Molinari and Simona Galateo, starts with the results of the competition INTERMEDIATE URBAN LANDSCAPE curated by Giovanna Piccinno. The exhibit features 18 projects conceived within University LAB Competition (IULC2013) focused on medium-scale architectures that combine the performances of MaxFine stoneware and Active Clean Air & Antibacterial Ceramic. The following event, SECOND LIFE. THE NEW MILLENIUM HOTEL, explores three exemplary renovations within the European town fabric and opened to an international audience. In the centre of Amsterdam, the Arlov Conservatorium Hotel designed by Lissoni Associati that restores the ancient Rijkspostspaarbank by Daniel Knuttel, once Sweelinck Conservatorium headquarters; Barcelona Mandarin Hotel by Carlos Ferrater and Juan Trias de Bes, Patricia Urquiola and F3 paisaje and Town Hall Hotel by Rare Architecture studio that faced the delicate and protected heritage of the art deco old town hall of East London, designed by Bethnal Green.
MILANO WORK IN PROGRESS # 5 displays a single but fundamental building designed by Marco Zanuso and Pietro Crescini in 1967-1970. The exhibit shows the four projects by the same studios that were invited by Hines Italia, in 2012, to rethink the building façade and its still unused spaces in harmony with the whole renovation of this portion of the city.
On the occasion of Milan Design Week, FELTRINELLI + HERZOG & DE MEURON. A NEW URBAN PROJECT FOR MILAN studies the urban value and historical references – from Aldo Rossi to Torre Velasca and some of the most ancient Milanese monuments – of the project for the new Fondazione Feltrinelli by the Helvetian studio. On the exhibit opening day Jacques Herzog lectures at Politecnico di Milano.
The open debate PENSARE LA CITTÀ DI DOMANI. L’ESPERIENZA DI TORINO LA VISIONE DI MILANO, in cooperation with Luca Ballarini, art director of Bellissimo studio and publisher of ITALIC, together with Giacomo Biraghi, Secolo Urbano founder and manager of Tavoli Expo 2015, is an occasion to compare the experience of Turin with the upcoming challenges of Matera (European Capital of Culture 2019) and Milan (2015 World Exposition).
URBAN ECOLOGIES #3 NEW TOWNS IN ASIA develops an insight on the new towns following the tradition started by Garden City by Ebenezer Howard, Ville Radieuse by Le Corbusier, Brasilia, Chandigarth and Guyan. The cases under study are: Masdar City, next to Abu Dhabi by Norman Foster and aiming at a zero emission and waste in the middle of the desert. Golden Hills developed by SOM along Cu De Vietnamese river and facing the heavy rainfall and flooding in the region; the turkish Kartal Pendik parametrically designed by Zaha Hadid. Last but mot least, the two cities conceived by KPF Kohn Pedersen Fox Associate that lectures on the opening day: the Chinese Meixi Lake on water and the South-Corean Songdo.
